Great Village

The vision of Wisnu Foundation is to become the best and most reliable independent social organisation in community resource management, with its mission to provide living energy for living space in Bali. The living spirit in Balinese living space is pictured in the village greatness that may be reached through the right Community Resources Management.

Wisnu’s work in creating the Great Village through Community Resource Management started in 2000. Our Eco-Tourism program is environment-based tourism that is owned and managed by the community. Wisnu, together with the community of Banjar Kiadan Pelaga in Badung, Banjar Dukuh Sibetan, Tenganan Pegringsingan village in Karangasem and Nusa Ceningan in Klungkung, founded the Eco-Tourism Village Network (known as JED, Jaringan Ekowisata Desa).

Village power then also empowered Wisnu. The organisations amendment in 2008 appointed representatives from those 4 villages as the Board of Supervisors of the Wisnu Foundation. Wisnu’s activities are aimed to empower people in their resource management, so they may create their village to become Great Village!!! (or Desa Hebat !!!)

Research and mapping, community empowerment, and information management are the three main programs in Wisnu Foundation.
