Let’s Take Care of Ourselves and the Earth with Natural Soap
Starting from spatial and social mapping activities carried out by the Wisnu Foundation, Dwe Natural Soap is present as one of the efforts to manage village potential. The idea of making soap also came from concerns about packaging waste and coconut waste (daksina) from ceremonies and water pollution by hazardous chemicals (parabens, SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)) contained in soap.
The main ingredient in this natural soap is coconut oil combined with local plants without using synthetic dyes and preservatives. The natural soap that is made also uses essential oils that not only provide a pleasant fragrance, but also have an aromatherapy effect that can help relax the mind and body. In addition, Dwe Natural Soap also uses packaging made from recycled paper which tends to be easily decomposed.
This time the Wisnu Foundation Team had the opportunity to provide training in making natural soap by traveling to the villages that had been assisted, starting from Pengotan, Bangli to West Bali – Perancak Village, and ending in Catur Village, Bangli. Here is a brief overview of the information that can be shared from the training activities carried out:
Pengotan, January 11, 2025
“The important thing is how to keep your skin wrinkle-free, but you don’t need to buy expensive skincare” That is one of the hopes of the participants in the natural soap making training in Baliwoso. All the ingredients are available in the village, you only need to buy alkali salt to mix coconut oil and water. This training was conducted with the Pakis Madya mothers and Gen Z daughters of Sekaa Daha, Pengotan Village. Hopefully they can use homemade soap and hopefully later it can also become one of the BUPDA Upadesa Pengotan businesses.
Pacung, January 16, 2025
“Pakis Pacung .. satya, sadya, sayaga” collaborates with “Let’s take care of ourselves and the earth with Natural Soap”. The Natural Soap Making Training was conducted at Bale Dadia Bhujangga Waisnawa, Pacung Traditional Village, Buleleng. Equipment that is difficult to obtain such as scales and hand blenders can be replaced with glasses and egg beaters for personal use. The hope of the Pakis Pacung mothers is that the natural soap business can be developed and become part of the Pacung BUPDA.
Munduk, January 19, 2025
Finally… There are male participants, young people, in the Natural Soap Making Training. This time with the Abiwara Group, Pakis Banjar Taman Munduk, and Posyandu Kartini Munduk Village at Balai Banjar Taman, Munduk Village, Buleleng which is located in an area that must be reached via an extremely steep and winding road. “It turns out it’s easy to make, I won’t have to buy soap later.” Hopefully the participants can be enthusiastic about making their own soap.
Perancak, January 25, 2025
This Natural Soap Making Training is located in West Bali, precisely in Perancak Village, Jembrana. This training was conducted at Balai Banjar Perancak and involved PKK Perancak Mothers, young people and interestingly there were also fathers who were very enthusiastic about participating in this training. Hopefully this training will be useful for the Perancak community. Let’s take care of ourselves and the earth together with natural soap.
Pedawa, January 26, 2025
Practicing making natural soap as part of the Pedawa Traditional School. Since 2024, the Pedawa Traditional Village has initiated the Traditional School as a way to preserve Pedawa’s cultural traditions, as well as develop the village’s potential. So Wisnu and the “students” of the Traditional School are trying to utilize the village’s potential through natural soap. Keep up the spirit!
Catur, February 3, 2025
“Is the soap safe for pregnant women?” One of the mothers asked this question during the Natural Soap Making Training in Catur Village. “It’s safe, Ma’am, because we only use coconut oil, water, and caustic soda. Well, the caustic soda will evaporate completely in 21 days during the “curing” period. Let’s use natural soap.
In addition to being able to make natural soap that nourishes and helps maintain skin moisture, this training is expected to encourage people to be more creative, to be able to start their own businesses to help the local economy and support environmental sustainability.
This training activity is supported by PT. Langgeng Kreasi Jayaprima-Diageo Indonesia as a form of social concern and responsibility for the use of natural resources, especially for the use of water.
